I booked Maverick on the recommendation of a fellow traveller and I’m so glad I did. I was visiting Budapest, and I wanted to find somewhere centrally located, and with a good atmosphere, and luckily this was just the place.
It’s located within walking distance to the centre, and right beside a bus stop and a metro station, so getting around is super easy. There is a bakery, ATM and a grocery store less than 20 seconds from the main door. The building itself is also impressive – it’s within a former royal palace, so even walking into the main hallway was cool!
The staff were really friendly and walked me to my room to make sure everything was okay. They also provided me with maps and leaflets and loads of information on everything from free tours to transport. They answered every single question I put to them over my 4 day, 3 night stay.

I stayed in a 10 bed mixed dorm, which was one dorm of several in our very spacious apartment. There were no bunk beds in sight (yay!) and every single bed had its own hook, lamp and socket, and there were both big and small lockers available to use for free. The wifi also worked perfectly throughout the apartment. Our bedroom had its own toilet and shower, but there were also other bathrooms and showers available to use if there was a queue. Our apartment also had an immaculate kitchen with a fridge, hob, toaster and microwave, as well as free tea and coffee. There wasn’t much storage space, but it was by far the cleanest hostel kitchen I’d ever seen.
Downstairs by the reception was another kitchen, a luggage room and free computers. All around the hostel were blackboards advertising everything from bar crawls to laundry to free city tours, so it really felt like they had everything covered.
The only thing I felt this hostel maybe needed was a common room or bar. There was seating areas in the hallway of our apartment and near reception, but it gave more of an impression of a waiting room rather than livingroom or bar. Luckily my dorm roommates were really friendly. We had a real mix of people but everyone got along solidly, were respectful when people were sleeping and had a great time.
If you end up staying in Budapest, definitely give this place a go. It’s cheap and ideally located, and if your visiting a fantastic city you should definitely stay in a fantastic hostel to match.
No bunk bed is definitely fresh stuff for a hostel! 😀
